Liverpool calling 2014 - The Kazimer review

The second venue on a multitude of venues for Liverpool Calling that we decided to plant ourselves in was The Kazimier and we weren't disappointed either. Like the bombed out church, every act that took to this stage was unique and overwhelming.

The Jackobins from Liverpool are a 5 piece rock band fronted by Dominic Bassnett whose voice would put the likes of Tony Hadley to shame. Powerful and ferocious you are almost bowled over with its intensity and the passion of him as a performer. That's not to take away anything from the other band members who were equally as impressive. With songs like their new single The Otherside and Prussia blowing the roof off the Kazimier. I highly recommend seeing this band.

From one storming band onto another and Dexters are another force to be reckoned with. With catchy tracks and almost anthem like tunes, they certainly moved the audience up a level again.

Lead singer Tom Rowlett is a formidable force on stage and with tracks like Shimmer Gold and Recover you can see why these guys are hotly tipped to go places. With a November UK tour already in the offing they seem to a busy band and I can see why. The guys return to Liverpool in November so if you get the chance go along.

The Repeat offenders next. And although they seemed to have brought half of Buckinghamshire with them, their set seemed a little lack lustre. The band seemed to be enjoying themselves immensely as did the audience but I found it a little bit of come down after the previous two bands. That's not to say they aren't as accomplished and talented as the other bands, I just wasn't left with the same feeling of awe as with the previous two. Maybe this was due to their place in the line up as possibly following The Jackobins would have worked a little better.

The Rifles from London though had no problem with their set. In fact I think they could have just stood there and let the crowds, of the now fully packed Kazimier, sing for them. Their following seems to be pretty large and from the first song through to the end The Rifles had them jumping, chanting and screaming for more and I can see why Paul Weller endorses them so much. This was the band that should have been headlining and thank god they were as they brought a close to a thoroughly enjoyable festival that I look forward to seeing again next year.
